About the Program

Music Unlimited at twenty
once again offers the most solid, distilled,
sharply defined and precise sound
to satisfy the most discerning ears

Following the cross-disciplinary choral theatre production at TIFA,
Resident Conductor Apo Hsu’s first full-length concert, a return to pure sound
Music Unlimited No. 16: Shape|Light|Sound

We present Ochre by Caroline Shaw, the youngest-ever winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music,
which uses vocal texture to evoke the luster and feel of mineral stone
and explores the relationship between human existence, nature, life, and death

We also return to Wenchen Qin’s first choral work, “Shadow of the Sun X – Sky” (太陽的影子X-天空)
From the vast grasslands of Mongolia, we hear the vibrations of wind and sun
Surrounded by immense scale, a supremely subtle and sublime religious feeling
“Beneath the high, high sky, row upon row of sutra halls were raised;
the sacred chants of the Buddha within drifted far away.”

At the same time, we continue to champion new contemporary work
with two commissioned world premieres
by Canadian composer Jules Bastin-Fontaine of Le Vivier
and Malaysian composer Kee Yong Chong, in a renewed collaboration
Both works place the human voice at the edge of listening experience
and seek to push open the sensory imagination of hearing, sight, and touch

A contemporary vision, a perfect sound.
Taipei Chamber Singers and Resident Conductor Apo Hsu
continue to craft an astonishing voice of the East
and open a new chapter in contemporary choral music
