Fang-Yi Lin Fang-Yi Lin
Fang-Yi Lin graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, majoring in composition under Michael Jarrell and Klaus Huber, Jarrell’s own teacher, and was selected by the EU ART NETWORK as an invited artist from Taiwan. She favors developing works in series as a way to probe artistic ideas and practice in depth, as in her trilogy for unconventional voices: “The Falling Farewell” (墜落的告別), “Songs of a Golden Age, Flowers like Mist” (盛世如歌花如煙) and “A Hundred Ghosts – for Percussion Ensemble and Prepared Recording” (百鬼—給打擊樂團與預置錄音). With a long-standing interest in many art forms, she has also created a range of interdisciplinary works, such as “Boundless Entering Tone” (無境入聲), which combines Peking opera; the interdisciplinary video work “Reading Music I: Let’s Read Poetry!” (閱讀音樂I:讓我們來讀詩吧!); and “Sketchbook of a Heterotopia” (異托邦的素描本). She also designs music for theatre, and in recent years has worked with theatre director Wang Chia-Ming on “Dear Life” (親愛的人生), “Da Vinci’s Notebook” (達文西的Notebook), “The Smiling Kingdom” (微笑王國) and “The Queen’s Story” (女王的故事).
Lin founded the arts organizations House No. 8 (捌號會所) and Big Voice Arts (大聲藝術), devoted to mentoring young musicians and artists and promoting them internationally. She is also an independent curator, having served as curator of the NTCH New Idea Music Festival, the Weiwuying Contemporary Music Platform and the One More Wave Arts Festival (再壹波藝術節), and as co-curator of the Madou Land Art Biennale.
