3rd Sing for Love Choral Composition Competition: Winning Works

A Vision Uniting Philanthropy and the Arts

Using music as a bridge to engage with social issues, promote goodwill, and encourage young people in Taiwan to compose, the Sing for Love project was initiated by entrepreneur 王光明 and has drawn support from Rotary International and civic leaders. Launched in 2018, it has now reached its third edition. Centered on four pillars—creation, performance, publication, and outreach—the project holds a choral songwriting and composition competition, premieres and publishes the winning works, and presents talks to promote them, establishing itself as a platform for new Chinese-language choral works and taking on an important role in nurturing a new generation of composers.

With the support of Rotary International District 3521, the National Culture and Arts Foundation, 張順立, former President of the Friends of the National Culture and Arts Foundation, and 王光明, the 3rd Sing for Love Choral Composition Competition was organized by the Taipei Chamber Singers on the themes “Imagination Brings Strength” and “Taiwan’s Cultural Landscapes.” Sixteen winning works were selected from nearly a hundred submissions.

Alongside the children’s, equal-voice, and mixed choir categories, this edition introduced a “Songwriting” category for the first time. Entrants needed only to submit a single-line melody in any format; the winning songs were then arranged for choir by past prize-winners commissioned by the Taipei Chamber Singers, premiered in concert, and published. The new category reflects the project’s deeper hope: to encourage young people in Taiwan to express their ideas and devote themselves to music, becoming a new force in Taiwan’s choral music of the future.
