Stravinsky: Symphony of Psalms
About the Program
Contemporary Highlights × Masterworks
In 2019, the Taipei Chamber Singers’ “Madame Rouge’s Fantasy World” presents a vivid contrast of cultures and styles from across borders.
Like a journey through musical wonderlands, the program opens with selected contemporary a cappella works that take listeners into the folk traditions of the Spanish Basque Country, Venezuela, and India, followed by Stravinsky’s large-scale sacred work, which fuses Russian Orthodox church music with neoclassicism, revealing its sharp harmonic language and rich palette of colors.
Originally scored for four-part mixed choir and chamber orchestra, the Symphony of Psalms will be performed in this concert in a new arrangement for choir, piano, accordion, and percussion, offering audiences a fresh way to imagine a classic work.
