Music Unlimited III: “Cai Sang Zi” (采桑子)

Included in “Chinese Choral Music Anthology: Music Unlimited III.”

About the Work

“Cai Sang Zi” is an a cappella work for mixed choir, completed in October 2012 on commission from the Taipei Chamber Singers. It was inspired by the emotions and state of mind in a ci poem by Xin Qiji. Through the composer’s own imagination and feeling, the sections are shaped with differing textures and musical images, and the rising and falling tones of the Chinese poetic text are deliberately transformed into the varied inflections of the melodic contours.
