Absolutely Polyphony
About the Program
Recreating five hundred years of the human voice
A timeless dialogue in polyphony
During the Renaissance, music developed from monophony to polyphony, ushering in a golden age of richly interwoven layers and raising the art of a cappella singing to its peak. Even today, polyphonic writing remains an important form for contemporary composers of a cappella choral music.
In “Absolutely Polyphony” (純粹・複音), Jia Fen Wong, a leading champion of choral music in Taiwan, conducts Taipei Chamber Singers in a program of pure vocal music spanning 500 years, built on two themes: “Renaissance Classics Revisited” and “Polyphony Reimagined Today.” Join us in this purity as we uncover the secrets of Renaissance polyphonic language and trace its hidden presence in contemporary choral music—a musical dialogue across time that conveys the exquisite beauty of simplicity and complexity intertwined.
