Madame Rouge’s Fantasy World – Stravinsky: Symphony of Psalms
25 Oct. 2019
Contemporary Highlights × Great Masterworks
Taipei Chamber Singers’ 2019 “Madame Rouge’s Fantasy World” presents striking contrasts between cultures and styles from different lands.
Like a journey through exotic musical landscapes, a selection of contemporary a cappella works takes listeners into the folk traditions of the Spanish Basque Country, Venezuela and India, while Stravinsky’s large-scale sacred work, blending Orthodox church music with neoclassicism, reveals sharp harmonic language and a wealth of tonal colour.
Originally scored for four-part mixed choir and chamber orchestra, the “Symphony of Psalms” will be performed in this concert in a new arrangement for choir, piano, accordion and percussion, offering audiences a fresh perspective on a classic work!
