TCS Vocal Ensemble

To open up wider space for promoting the vocal arts, Taipei Chamber Singers brought together seven of its finest singers in 2009 to form a creative vocal group: the TCS Vocal Ensemble. These seven playful choral veterans, each with more than 20 years of singing behind them, reach out to audiences with a philosophy of “playing with the classics.” Their repertoire spans newly arranged classical pieces, folk songs, jazz, and pop crossover. Carrying on the precise technique and distinctive taste of Taipei Chamber Singers, they strive for refined, “100% pure” vocal sound in the tradition of the vocal ensemble, relying solely on the singers’ artistry and musicianship to offer audiences a fresh listening experience.

The TCS Vocal Ensemble has been invited many times to perform for corporations, at schools, in major concert halls, and at national award ceremonies, winning wide acclaim for its professional yet humorous stage presence. Its annual productions, from “Six Together” (六人行) and “Playful Songs, Mischievous Voices” (玩歌．頑聲) to “YEAH! Sing All Night” (夜！Yeah！笙歌), keep breaking new ground, combining singing, movement, and theater into a single whole. The ensemble has performed in succession at the National Recital Hall in Taipei and the Guangfu Hall of Zhongshan Hall, and on tour across northern, central, and southern Taiwan, using a musical language that is at once retro, multilayered, and innovative to connect audiences effortlessly with the art of music.

Over the years, the TCS Vocal Ensemble has appeared on more than thirty stages large and small to promote choral art. To thank its many supporters, in 2013 it released its first EP, “YEAH! Sing All Night,” gathering past favorites and hits that arrangers tailored especially for the singers. Looking ahead, the ensemble will create more diverse opportunities to extend the reach of Taiwan’s refined vocal artistry, using the singers’ distinctive musical character to inspire more listeners to love the classics in a different way.
