The Double Theatre The Double Theatre

Theatre Company

The Double Theatre was founded in 2014. Its Chinese name, 複象公場, takes 複象 (“the double”) from Antonin Artaud's book “The Theatre and Its Double”, while 公場 is a homophone for “factory” and also refers to public space; the company hopes to offer directors and theatre makers from different fields a space to experiment with new playwriting and creation. Working in the form of theatre, The Double Theatre presents human relationships in a globalized society. Crossing different ways of thinking, we try to make theatre a refraction of life, allowing audiences to see familiar realities from new angles.

In 2016, its production “Far Away” (遠方) was selected for the Young Theatre Competition at the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, and the same year “Her Last Splendor” (她最後的華麗) was selected as one of the Guling Street Avant-garde Theatre's programs of the year. For the “Dance Text Project” it curated at the 2015 Taipei Fringe Festival, the work “A Love Story” (愛的故事) received a Dance in Dance award. In 2017, The Double Theatre was invited to perform “Far Away” and “Her Last Splendor” at the Besançon theatre festival in France and the Nanluoguxiang Theatre Festival in Beijing.
