林健吉
Lyric tenor 林健吉 has a voice that is gentle and beautiful yet at times full of surging intensity. Excelling in Mozart and Italian bel canto repertoire and gradually extending into Romantic and verismo opera, 林健吉 brings great versatility to the stage while maintaining singing of refined quality. Beyond opera, 林健吉 also performs refined and elegant chamber song cycles: in recent years 林健吉 toured a concert program devoted to the German late-Romantic composer Hugo Wolf, and this year sings Schubert’s song cycle Schwanengesang.
Major performances include Wagner’s Ring with maestro 簡文彬 and the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO); The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO); opera concerts with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO), including the role of Xu Xian in Madame White Snake (白蛇傳), the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera by Chinese-American composer Zhou Long, under maestro Lan Shui; the title role in the cross-disciplinary contemporary chamber opera 江文也 and His Two Wives (江文也與兩位夫人) with Counterpoint Ensemble and composer Tzyy Sheng Lee, which was nominated for the Taishin Arts Award; and the male lead Alfredo in La traviata, the NTSO’s 2015/16 season-opening opera concert.
Since 2014 林健吉 has starred in the opera La bohème, sung Prince Tamino in The Magic Flute, the first opera production of the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival, and appeared in Die Fledermaus, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and Der Freischütz with the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra to acclaim from the music community. 林健吉 also performs in cross-disciplinary music theatre, presenting the rich possibilities of Chinese poetry and song in performance.
林健吉 will star as Alfredo in the 2021 production of La traviata at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying). 林健吉’s album Sing! (唱歌吧!) was nominated for Best Vocal Performance at the 31st Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music in 2020.
