Benjamin Goodson Conducting Masterclass Concludes
Co-presented with the Taiwan Choral Association, the conducting masterclass sold out all its auditor places; in three hours, Goodson pinpointed the core issues of interpretation and technique for each participant.
The Benjamin Goodson Conducting Masterclass, co-presented by the Taipei Chamber Singers and the Taiwan Choral Association, was held on 20 September 2025 in Rehearsal Room 1 of the National Theater. Places for participants filled quickly, and the 30 auditor places opened afterwards also sold out.
In the masterclass, Benjamin Goodson coached three classic choral works: Robert Parsons’ Ave Maria, William Henry Harris’s Faire Is the Heaven, and Zadok the Priest from George Frideric Handel’s Coronation Anthems.
In just three hours, Goodson pinpointed the core issues of interpretation and technique for each of the three participants, and the choir responded to every change in sound with remarkable sensitivity—those present witnessed moments when the music lit up in an instant.
Benjamin Goodson, the youngest director of music in the history of the University of Oxford, served as assistant conductor of the Rundfunkchor Berlin before becoming Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Choir; the director of the Dutch broadcasting music foundation has praised him as “one of the most talented choral conductors working today.” He also teaches conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Special thanks to our co-presenter, the Taiwan Choral Association, and to every conductor and auditor who took part so enthusiastically.
