張尹芳 excels in diverse and crossover performances.
From 2006 to 2022, 張尹芳 served successively as Assistant Conductor and Resident Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), helping to plan and conducting the annual production and outreach concerts of “NSO Fairy Tales Forever” (NSO永遠的童話), which combined dance, puppetry, picture books, distinguished painters and animation—a tireless contribution to classical music education and outreach. Skilled in crossover collaborations of every kind, 張尹芳 has worked with Sylvia Chang and with 王耀慶 to create programs combining theatre and music, such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Peer Gynt, and has collaborated many times with the Golden Melody Award–winning band Sodagreen and with the internationally renowned classical duo of “music hackers,” Igudesman & Joo. Since 2019, at the invitation of the National Taichung Theater, 張尹芳 has conducted the NSO in the opera concert The Merry Widow and the music theatre production The Man with the Compound Eyes, and arranged and conducted a chamber version of the opera Tannhäuser; at the invitation of Weiwuying, 張尹芳 has conducted the “Crazy for Schubert” (瘋迷舒伯特) series and Christmas programs including the ballet theatre production of The Nutcracker, all to wide acclaim.
張尹芳 is also active in premiering works by contemporary Chinese-speaking composers, conducting the NSO in the recording of “Mountain, Sea, Strings and Plains” (山海琴原), an album of symphonic works created from traditional songs of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples, and, at the invitation of the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, conducting the concert “Light Returning into the Deep Forest: A Tribute to Chou Wen-Chung” (反景入深林─向周文中致敬), which was recorded and released. In 2018 張尹芳 was again invited to conduct the opening concert of the Asia Pacific Music Festival, premiering works by several composers.
