The “2018 Sing for Love 1st Choral and Solo Song Composition Competition” project was initiated by 王光明, Governor of Rotary International District 3521, who invited 莊進標, Governor of District 3481, 陳世霖, Governor of District 3482, and 張順立, President of the NCAF Friends Association, to take part, and entrusted its execution to Taipei Chamber Singers. Under the themes of love, inspiring life, and saying no to drugs, the competition attracted nearly 120 entries. It aims to discover outstanding creative talent and choral works, and to keep them sung far and wide, fostering friendship and harmony in society.

Each promotional lecture focuses on the Sing for Love winning works. Yun-Hung Chen, Artistic Director and Conductor of Taipei Chamber Singers, will personally coach the interpretation of the choral pieces, demonstrating on site how to draw out the deepest emotions of each work and uncover the composer’s subtle craft, and how to convey them through singing with sensitivity to listeners, achieving an effective and beautiful transmission of love.

The lectures invite choral conductors, schoolteachers at all levels, club instructors and music lovers to join in promoting Sing for Love and become seeds for spreading outstanding choral works. Teachers attending may claim professional development hours, and every participant will receive a complete set of scores of the Sing for Love winning works, including three mixed-choir works, three equal-voice choir works, three solo songs and three works awarded Best Lyrics. We hope the positive power of music will take root and grow in each participant, carrying blessings and blossoming for love in ever more small corners.

To further promote the works after their premiere, Taipei Chamber Singers plans to join hands with choirs rooted in their local communities, such as the Central Taiwan Choral Center and Kaohsiung Chamber Choir, to hold lectures touring all of Taiwan, bringing music and positive energy into communities, schools and civic organisations everywhere, in the hope of nurturing a greater response in every corner of society.
