[A Cross-Disciplinary Dialogue between Theatre and Song] Contemporary Choral Music Theatre Workshop
The “Music Unlimited 11 – Contemporary Choral Music Theatre Workshop” takes this year’s Music Unlimited production, “Missing You, As Always” (念你如昔), as its case study, inviting music and theatre professionals active on the world stage to share their experience of collaboration across music and theatre. On the music side, the workshop features the internationally acclaimed Malaysian composer Dr. Kee Yong Chong, known for works that fuse traditional Asian imagery with avant-garde sound and music director of “Missing You, As Always”, who will speak about the conception and creation of music theatre in recent years; it also welcomes the renowned composer Shen Ye, the first composer from mainland China to sign with the internationally known music publisher Breitkopf & Härtel, who will share the creative process behind his work for “Missing You, As Always”. On the theatre side, the workshop features Hong-Chen Poo, stage director of “Missing You, As Always”, who will deconstruct how a theatre production comes into being. Through wide-ranging dialogue and exploration, the workshop offers participants first-hand access to the production details of music theatre, deepens their appreciation of the sonic and dramatic aesthetics of contemporary choral music theatre, and extends the artistic reach of the Music Unlimited project over the long term.
To encourage more music students and aspiring creators of choral music and theatre to take part, the entire workshop is free of charge, and registered participants are entitled to 20% off tickets to the Music Unlimited 11 “Missing You, As Always” concert.
