Limits Unbound

A firm belief that choral music knows no limits, and that passionate voices hold limitless possibilities

This year, at the joint invitation of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) and the Asian Composers League (ACL), the Taipei Chamber Singers will give a full program of experimental contemporary choral music at the 2007 ISCM World Music Days. The 2007 World Music Days is today the largest and most important contemporary music festival in the world. Its theme this year, “Music & Beyond,” emphasizes that different cultures, ethnicities, nations, and regions can all communicate, exchange ideas, and cross boundaries through the diverse, blended vocabulary of contemporary music. Over the ten-day festival, more than 24 concerts will present 150 selected works from more than 50 countries around the world. The festival will also commission internationally renowned masters to write new works for performance at the festival. These contemporary works span a wide range of instrumentation, including Western orchestra, Chinese orchestra, Western chamber music, Chinese chamber music, mixed Chinese and Western chamber music, vocal and choral music, multimedia music, electronic music, and more.

The program of Music Unlimited II: Limits Unbound is the repertoire the choir will take to the ISCM World Music Days in Hong Kong. Conductor Yun-Hung Chen notes that choral music is flourishing in Taiwan and that audiences’ taste in choral music has changed beyond recognition; this concert without limits is a wonderful opportunity for local choral audiences to glimpse the face of contemporary music.
