Across Asia, Australia, the United States and Latin America: a journey of distinctive sounds in pure voice. In its 2014 annual production “Poems Without Borders,” the Taipei Chamber Singers performs a series of contemporary works full of international color. The program spans works from East Asia and the United States—the former delicate and graceful, the latter romantic and lyrical—contrasted with voices from India, Latin America, Australia and elsewhere that are rich in indigenous character. In sounds that interweave the simple and the rugged, it reveals the rich and colorful musical heritage of the world’s peoples.

Like a richly patterned and colorful painting, “Poems Without Borders” is filled with the cultural stories of the world’s many peoples. Seemingly at odds, yet full of powerful vitality, they collide amid countless moments of stillness and motion, tension and release, to form a beautiful and deeply moving song-poem.
