About the Program

Bringing together Chinese composers from around the world
Rooted in a shared cultural heritage, opening new horizons for choral composition
Heralding new territory for Eastern voices in the 21st century

The Music Unlimited Program is a contemporary choral commissioning project launched by the Taipei Chamber Singers in 2006, aiming to build an unprecedented, forward-looking platform for contemporary choral music by Chinese composers in Asia. Following Music Unlimited VI – “Wu,” a cross-disciplinary production for voices and new media that was shortlisted among the year’s top 15 performing and visual arts works for the 12th Taishin Arts Award, Music Unlimited VII in 2014 opens up broader cross-cultural connections among Chinese composers. Taiwanese composer Hwang Long Pan, Malaysian composer Kee Yong Chong, Shanghai composer De Qing Wen and Hong Kong composer Yong Hua Chen are invited to create new contemporary vocal works, and the program also features contemporary vocal works by Yi Chen, the most internationally renowned Chinese woman composer. An international music workshop is also held, offering today’s composers opportunities for in-depth exchange with outstanding Chinese composers from around the world, together bringing new energy to contemporary Eastern vocal music.
