Taiwanese Songs by Wei Bin Chen
The Most Beautiful Harmonies for the Most Beautiful Taiwanese Songs
About the Program
向陽 — “Wei Bin Chen carries on the most truly Taiwanese of voices.”
邱垂堂 — “Wei Bin Chen explores the vocal production and pronunciation of Taiwanese through the sounds and rhymes of the language.”
Writing music out of longing for home and lyrics in the mother tongue has shaped Wei Bin Chen’s musical voice. In 2008 Chen presented a first concert of original works at the National Recital Hall in Taipei. “Tung Blossom Waltz” (桐花圓舞曲) was nominated for Best Lyricist at the 19th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music, and “The Muddy Waters of the Zhuoshui River” (濁水溪溪水濁) was honored by the Yunlin County Government as the “Yunlin Movement.” Melodious and uplifting, and rich in the character of Taiwan, Chen’s works mark an outstanding cross-disciplinary creator whose mission is “to pass on the voice of Taiwan.”
