Encounter: Choral Works of David L. Wen

Choral music: voices blending and intertwining in an encounter with words

Following “Songs of the Island” (謠唱島嶼), which Taipei Chamber Singers produced in 2018 on commission from the Taiwan Music Institute for its “Images of Taiwanese Music” series, the choir was invited again in 2019 to take part in “Encounter: Choral Works of David L. Wen” (邂逅─温隆信合唱作品音樂會) in the same series.

David L. Wen was the first Taiwanese composer to win honors at the International Gaudeamus Composers Competition in the Netherlands. Choral music, in which voices blend and intertwine in an encounter with words, has always had a special power to touch the heart. Ancient songs are passed down in the mountains and forests, while new contemporary choral works resound in the cities; sung and shared across generations, these beautiful voices have nourished and enriched the spirit of the people of Taiwan.

In this concert, Taipei Chamber Singers and the Yangyin Children’s Choir perform David L. Wen’s works for mixed choir and children’s choir respectively. The concert also crosses over with the Four Claws Band, bringing pure and heartfelt voices together with classical, jazz, and modern styles for a brilliant and unforgettable evening of choral music.
