International Master Series:
International Masters Series
About the Program
A musical journey across centuries, exploring inner courage and hope.
Warm voices travel through time as Taipei Chamber Singers moves from the devotion of the Renaissance and the splendor of the Baroque all the way to contemporary choral sound. The International Masters Series welcomes British conductor Benjamin Goodson, currently Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Choir, who is internationally acclaimed for a conducting style that is energetic, bold and sincere. Critics have praised the result: “Everything was just right, without a flaw.”
The program sets out from the deeply devout sacred music of English Renaissance composer William Byrd, passes through the majestic splendor of George Frideric Handel’s coronation anthems, takes in Felix Mendelssohn’s pure prayer for peace, and immerses itself in the warm, rich harmonies of several contemporary British composers.
The concert also features a new commission from Taiwanese composer 林佳瑩, “The Enigma Within” (內在之謎), which uses music to probe the mysteries of human consciousness and the soul. All these interwoven voices are offered to this land, following the flow of consciousness and the exploration of memory. With precise musicianship and sound, Taipei Chamber Singers shares with you the elegance of the authentic English choral sound.
