About the Program

Zoltán Pad, Principal Conductor of the Hungarian Radio Choir for more than a decade, carries forward Hungary’s deep tradition of vocal artistry. Having led the Kodály Choir Debrecen and the Hungarian Radio Choir, and founded the chamber choir Ars Oratoria, Pad now collaborates with Taipei Chamber Singers for the first time, presenting the most vivid contemporary face of Hungarian choral art.

The concert is built around two themes, sacred choral music and folk traditions: from the sacred voices of Palestrina, Arvo Pärt, and Ligeti to the folk landscapes collected by Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók, one evening spans five hundred years of Hungarian vocal music.

In addition, Taiwanese composer 林芝良 has been specially commissioned to write “Save As” (另存新檔), a new work in the Music Unlimited series, opening a contemporary vocal dialogue between Europe and Asia.
